Central Coast Classic Petanque Tournament

The 2012 Central Coast Classic

Teams from Paso Robles, Templeton, Atascadero, San Luis Obispo and as far away as Fresno and Oakhurst gathered over Labor Day Weekend to vie for top honors at the 2012 Central Coast Classic Petanque Tournament.

Thanks to efficient setup and administration, the first games started at 10:00 as planned. Using the Swiss System, where winners play winners, the teams were soon sorted by skill and experience. Two games were played before a break for lunch, followed by two further games in the afternoon. With the Swiss System there are no elimination games - everyone played four games!

Close Enough to Measure

Close enough to measure! Play overflowed onto the nearby bocce courts!

Games in Progress!

Team uniforms added to the festive nature of the event! The well-marked courts gave ample room for strategic positioning. Though the day warmed to the low 90s, the canopy shade was adiquate, and in the afternoon a welcome sea-breeze kicked in and cooled the players.

All Ages Played!

One of the best things about petanque is all ages can play! Counting the points!

The Game for First and Second!

3/4 of the two Finals teams! Deb makes another excellent throw while teammate Greg anticipates the results. Carl waits his turn to counter the boule thrown. Carl's teammate, Linda, missing from this photo is two pictures up - you can recognize her by the uniform!

It was an all Fresno Final this year!
